Hello my fellow students in mindfulness. It has been a little too long since I have written. For that, I apologize. I have been sailing on some stormy seas in this boat we call life.

Without getting into too much detail, it has been an extremely hard time for me and my family, with numerous health scares and losses coming in rapid succession.

I want to assure you that these difficulties, rather than weaken our dedication, have done nothing but strengthen our resolve to bring this invaluable practice into your lives.

What To Expect From Zen Teachings Moving Forward

Moving forward (because we never look backward) you can expect regular blogs and updated podcasts. Students will also be able to have access to Sifu’s weekly meditation talks and I encourage you all to take advantage of that.

The fact that we have heard something does not mean that we have gleaned all of its value and should discard it. This is called a “practice” for a reason. We are constantly learning and constantly evolving. There is no such thing as “finished” in the pursuit of self-mastery. Talks that I first heard years ago are relevant in new ways today and I know you will have the same experience.

Is Our Boat Sinking or Staying Dry Inside?

There is an old story about a small boat surrounded by miles and miles of ocean. A little girl asked,

“How does the boat keep from sinking with so much water around it?”

The answer is really quite simple: all of the water in the world is of no consequence as long as we do not let in INSIDE the boat.

I have been, and still am, surrounded by water. I know that you all have your struggles and trials as well. I can attest to the fact that what keeps my boat dry, on the inside, is my practice.

How is Your Boat Doing?

I am anxious to hear how you all have been achieving your goals so far this year and want to help you make this the best year possible. We will practice and work together to keep our boats dry.

You’ll be hearing from me more regularly and I hope that you take this practice into your lives. It has saved mine more times than I can count. – Rudolph Makupson
